Immigrant Services Guelph Wellington (ISGW) provides translation and interpretation services, on a fee-for-service basis, to service providers in the Guelph, Wellington Region and we are in need of interpreters who speak your language; and in particular we are interested in recruiting for Nepali, Gujarati, Kurdish, Tigrinya, Tagalog, Tibetan and Amharic.
ISGW is coordinating 34 hours of interpreter training to be held at the ISGW office, 104 Dawson Road, Unit 102, in Guelph starting on February 27 and concluding March 27.
This course will consist of:
- Introduction to Interpreter Ethics (4 hours) February 27 from 9:30 to 1pm.
- Introduction to Spoken Language Interpreting (30 hours), March 3, 6, 10, 20, 24, and 27 from 9:15 to 4:30.
Part 1 will be facilitated by Access Alliance, (http://accessalliance.ca/programs-services/language-services/interpreter-training/) an agency that provides multicultural health and community services as well as providing interpretation services and interpreter training.
Part 2 will be facilitated by an instructor from the Humber College Language Interpreter Training Program and will include practise and preparation for taking the Interpreter Language Skills Assessment Tool (ILSAT), a provincially accepted oral test of a candidate’s ability to interpret.
At the end of the course, participants will be expected to sign up to take the ILSAT at a future date. This test is administered at ISGW and sent to Across Languages, the agency responsible for scoring the test and issuing certificates. Candidates will receive an ILSAT certificate if they receive a passing grade of 75%.
