Phase 3: Empowering Seniors through Mutual Help
For the next two years, Phase 3 of Project Wisdom, will utilize a mutual help model to address elder abuse and related issues that place seniors at risk. The objectives of the project are twofold:
- Build upon and test promising practices in the use of mutual aid in elder abuse awareness including financial fraud prevention, in order to provide opportunities for identifying various organizational needs for the use of this model
- Create a replicable framework of organizational policy, procedure and capacity building skills, enabling agencies serving at-risk/hard-to-reach seniors across Canada to effectively utilize a mutual aid approach to community-based elder abuse awareness including financial fraud prevention among this population.
We will continue to develop and promote community groups facilitated by and for seniors. We will organize a variety of workshops on elder abuse awareness, including financial fraud prevention. Developing networks and partnerships will be essential to the success of this project. We will also develop guidelines for organizations and service providers wishing to use the model of supportive community groups. The project will finish with a Canada-wide webinar as a way of sharing our experiences and educating others about our model.
We are very excited about this phase. If you have any questions or wish to partake in the project, please email us at projectwisdom[at]is-gw.ca
