World Elder Abuse Awareness Event

“I am an  Ontarian and I am Here to Stay”will provide insight, into how we, as a community, are  working together to integrate services for ALL Seniors in our community.  This event will highlight the Harmony Interactive Troupe depicting the story of  a senior immigrant’s experience in connecting with services, and how we can collaborate with each other.

We invite all participating agency representatives to bring along brochures describing their services, so that we can have an exchange and networking of resources. There will be a table that you can display them on.

The Waterloo Region Committee on Elder Abuse, will also hold their Annual General Meeting, after the event, and we welcome you to attend.

Community Worker for Project Wisdom

Project Wisdom is currently looking for Community Workers (an honourarium-based role with the project):

Community Worker for Project Wisdom

Project Wisdom reaches out to and engages the wisdom of immigrant seniors in Guelph-Wellington in community development, to connect people to services, raise awareness of elder abuse, and build communities that are nourishing to people of all ages. Project Wisdom is made possible by funding from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program, vision and support from our partner agencies, and most of all by the commitment and passion of older adults from diverse communities in Guelph-Wellington.

As a Community Worker, you have strong English communication skills and can also speak one of these languages: Urdu, Uzbek, Punjabi, Spanish or Amharic. Our ideal candidate will have strong people skills, initiative, and the flexibility to work evenings or weekends if needed.

As a Community Worker you will perform a diverse group of tasks, including outreach in the community; meet with and have conversations with older adults; organize group and community activities; respond to inquiries. Project Wisdom raises awareness about elder abuse within our community.

As part of this role, you will assist in the development of resources and facilitate community discussions, as needed.  This is a short-term opportunity with time commitment of at least 7 hours per week for 12 weeks. You will receive an honorarium of $1,300. Access to a vehicle/transportation is required. This is an opportunity to work with an innovative project in a collaborative environment. You will receive opportunities for rewarding experiences, creativity, and learning. Resumes can be sent to projectwisdom@is-gw.ca by June 7, 2013.

While we thank everyone for applying, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
